Nestled near the Mission Ranch with sheep moseying next to the garden and a magnificent vista of Point Lobos, this must certainly be among the most beautiful sites on earth for a school. The Garden, created in 1993, exemplifies the Master Gardener mission. As you wander through, please notice the fabulous plantings, the creative picnic table and recycling center. You will want to start kindergarten all over again!

Come in and enjoy the peace of this garden with its Asian feel. Pass under the colossal multi-trunked oak trees and immediately feel calm. The serenity of this space is palpable with its stunning crane pool water feature. By the time you have ambled through, your blood pressure will have dropped 30 points. The original house was remodeled and the garden was created in 1993. The house had been painted white but the owner has had it sandblasted and added new stones to match the old.

This is a quintessential Carmel cottage garden, blooming exuberantly in all seasons. The charming home and garden have both been remodeled within the past year and you will certainly want to linger.

This garden is on a large lot backed by a stand of Monterey cypress trees. The Sally Holmes roses that cover the gate are so prolific in spring that one can scarcely see any leaves. That alone would be a showstopper but the succulent-filled window box beyond has almost caused accidents as in: Honey, stop the car! The garden was installed six years ago and is gradually being altered to reflect our need to conserve water.

This classic French-English inspired old Carmel home is in near-original condition (the fleur de lys fence is an addition) and is on the list of Historic Homes. It is one of four homes still standing on this corner (including the Edgemere Inn) that were built in 1929 and it has only changed hands three times since. The Australian gum tree and the redwood are original. Notice the medallions that the owner has collected over many years; they are creations of André Rognier of San Mateo. The Rognier family was well known for reproductions of classic Greek, Roman, and Egyptian statuary. They supplied these for wealthy Peninsula estates, most notably Filoli, and won the Medal of Honor at the 1915 Panama Pacific Exposition.

The owner, a professional designer/builder, beautifully executed this unique and original home and garden. We only wish you could see the pièce de résistance, his remarkable reinforced roof garden, with a view of Point Lobos. His many found objects are artistically positioned in the most unusual and surprising ways. Understandably, there have been many requests for Roof Garden House to be on tour. The Monterey Bay Master Gardeners are proud to be the first to showcase this masterpiece.

| Rose Cottage | ||
You will notice upon arriving that “Cottage” must be an inside joke. This Pebble Beach estate covers 2 ½ acres. The entirety, including pool, tennis courts, and other outbuildings, have been magnificently landscaped and the amazing espaliered orchard is alone worth the price of admission. |
